Do You Believe the Bible?

In America, we all have access to a Bible at any time in any place. You can read the Bible on your phone! Today, we are at an all-time low on actually knowing what the Bible says. More than half of Americans have never read the Bible, or they have only read very little of it. In 2017, Lifeway Research determined only 20% of Americans have read the entire Bible and only 10% read the Bible every day.

Researcher McConnell said, “Even among worship attendees, less than half read the Bible daily. The only time most Americans hear from the Bible is when someone else is reading it.”

They found most Americans feel the Bible is a good source for moral and character development. Do you believe the Bible is beneficial for other subjects besides moral and ethical training? Do you believe the whole Bible? Do you believe the Bible is God’s handbook for humanity?

I believe the Bible is God’s playbook for all of human life – body, mind, and spirit. And I believe it is my assignment to communicate what God has to say about diet, health, and beauty.

I hear two ideas in church about our bodies and diet.

One conversation I hear is that God does not care about my weight, diet, or health. God only cares about my soul. While Jesus was here on earth, he cared for the physical body. Church attendees will say they believe in Jesus and are going to heaven, so it does not matter what their bodies are like here. They will claim one verse of the Bible that says you will receive a new body when you go to heaven.

2 Corinthians 5:1

For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”

If you look at the Bible in its entirety, you will see that God has a lot to say about how you eat, your health, and how you live.

The other conversations I hear are about the latest and greatest diet. People take pictures of their meal and post it on social media, talking about what you “can” and “cannot” eat. This way of thinking leaves God out entirely. This thinking says to God that you have the willpower, and you can do it by yourself. You know more than God does about what you should eat.

The Bible – God – has a lot to say about your diet and lifestyle. If I have made you curious about what God has to say, subscribe to my blog posts and YouTube channel. They provide food for thought as well as food for the body.
