Changing Your Diet? It’s Not That Hard

A few years ago, a mother brought her daughter with acne in for a facial appointment with me so that I could fix her daughter’s skin.

She was not the only mother who expected the same result; lots of moms would bring their daughters in and expect me to “fix” their daughter’s skin.

As I was giving the daughter a facial, I asked her what her favorite foods were.  What do you eat daily?  I could tell what the answer was going to be before she answered.  She told me pizza, chocolate, and Coke.  I confirmed the chocolate and sugared soda was a daily intake for her, and it was.

After completing the facial, I went out to speak with the mother.  I suggested a cleanser and an anti-oxidant for topical use.  Then, I told her that if she really wanted to address her daughter’s skin she should look at her diet – namely the chocolate and soda – the sugar.  I went on to explain that sugar in the body is what bacteria live on.

She did not purchase any topical products and told me it was “too hard” to change her diet.

This encounter left a lasting impression on me.  I think about it each time I feel that something I am trying to change feels “hard”.  Do you ever feel that changing a habit is just “too hard”?

Changing Your Diet? Look to the Bible

Let’s look at what the Bible says about “hard things”.

Deuteronomy 30:11-14

Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.  It is not up in heaven so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?”  Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?”  No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.

Changing Your Diet? Think Positive

This is referencing the Law in the Torah.  If you read the Torah laws, you would say, “I could never do all this, it is too hard”.  But, God is telling us – NOTHING is too hard.  Everything you need to overcome anything you think is too hard – you already have.  You don’t have to go find it.  You have it inside you.

In your mouth.  Never speak that you can’t do anything.  Always speak you can overcome.

In your heart.  Believe in your heart you can overcome.

Changing your diet or changing a habit may seem hard, but it is not!

Changing Your Diet? It’s In Your Heart

Do not speak with your mouth or think in your heart anything negative regarding the new habit or change you want to make.  Always speak in a positive way that you can and will change that thing you are trying to change.
